About The Position

The High School English Teacher is responsible for delivering a rigorous and engaging English curriculum that fosters students' literary analysis, writing, and communication skills. The teacher will guide students through various genres of literature and forms of composition while cultivating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. This position involves close collaboration with students, parents, and colleagues to enhance academic achievement and personal growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Oregon state teaching certification/licensure in English (secondary level).
  • Strong knowledge of literature, writing instruction, and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students in a collaborative academic setting.
  • Clearance of Pre-Employment Drug Screen
  • Clearance of Background Investigation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching English at the high school level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based English lessons aligned with state and school curriculum.
  • Teach literature, composition, grammar, and critical thinking across a variety of texts.
  • Guide students in reading and analyzing literary genres including novels, poetry, drama, and nonfiction.
  • Support student development in writing essays, creative works, and research projects.
  • Facilitate classroom discussions to enhance comprehension, interpretation, and oral communication skills.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Provide individualized support to promote academic success and literacy development.
  • Encourage participation in English-related extracurricular activities (e.g., writing clubs, school publications).
  • Promote critical thinking, collaboration, and confidence through discussion and project-based learning.
  • Collaborate with school staff, counselors, and families to support student success.
  • Assess and track student progress using formative and summative assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
