About The Position

This part-time position is responsible for implementing a rigorous reading and writing curriculum that prepares students for college readiness at the secondary level. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the new Arkansas English Language Arts (ELA) standards and frameworks. Teachers at Arkansas Arts Academy are required to incorporate arts integration into their curriculum and explore diverse assessments to provide students with multiple demonstrations of mastery. This role involves participation in professional learning communities (PLC) and collaboration with K-12 ELA teachers for vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment. Additionally, the teacher will be required to complete 40 minutes of morning or afternoon duty per week and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and certification by the state of Arkansas for teaching 7-12 English.
  • 7-12 certification in English required.
  • Teachers must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the school.
  • Pass Background/Maltreatment check.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new environments.
  • Ability to connect with a wide range of students of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Know how to make the learning process enjoyable and fun.
  • Be responsive to work-related emails and phone calls during contracted hours.

Responsibilities

  • Teach individual students/groups in grades 7-12 focusing on growth in reading and writing skills.
  • Organize classroom to offer a positive and student-centered learning environment.
  • Plan lessons in relation to class and individual students’ goals and interests.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities.
  • Modify instruction, assignments, and assessments as needed for differentiation of learners.
  • Evaluate student’s performance and growth in knowledge and ability, and prepare progress reports.
  • Maintain discipline, set class expectations with realistic rules of conduct.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress; maintain assessment records for each student and prepares reports as required by school.
  • Instruct students to respect the classroom environment and properly care for all learning tools.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Prepare students for state and national assessments.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Follow operational policies and procedures.
  • Model integrity, honesty, and respect that promotes the culture, values, and mission of Arkansas Arts Academy.
  • Attend departmental meetings and professional development opportunities.
