About The Position

Argosy Collegiate Charter School (ACCS) is seeking a dedicated and passionate English Learner (EL) Teacher to join their team. As an EL Teacher at ACCS, the role involves supporting English Learner students in their language development and academic achievement, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students can thrive. ACCS is a tuition-free charter school that provides a small school environment focused on college and career readiness for all scholars. The EL program plays an important role in ensuring that English Learners receive the support they need to excel academically and linguistically. In this position, the teacher will collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, and other EL teachers to develop and implement effective instructional strategies and support services for EL students. This includes delivering targeted language instruction, providing individual and small-group instruction, and assessing students' progress. Additionally, the teacher will work closely with families and community partners to engage them in the education and language development of EL students.

Requirements

  • MA DESE Certification in English as a Second Language (5-12)
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or content area (required)
  • Completion of the MTELs in Communication and Literacy and in the content area by the end of the first year of employment.
  • Experience accommodating and modifying curriculum to allow curriculum access
  • Experience working on teams and collaborating with professionals
  • Knowledge of state and federal compliance regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience preferred in an urban or charter school setting with proven track record for closing the achievement gap
  • 3+ years of work experience in education
  • Master’s degree in education or related fields

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute rigorous daily lesson plans that align to MA Common Core Frameworks and support scholars toward high levels of academic achievement in co-taught inclusion settings and small group targeted instruction.
  • Utilize a range of data sources to drive instruction, plan for supports and interventions, and develop responsive lesson plans.
  • Use a variety of informal and formal assessments methods, including common interim assessments, to measure scholars’ learning, growth, and progress toward achieving state/local standards.
  • Provide varied and differentiated instruction to meet scholars where they are and challenge and motivate them to meet their full potential - this includes innovative use of co-teaching models with special education and English language teachers and implementation of SEI strategies.
  • Implement Individual Education Plans, 504 plans, and EL strategies to support scholars attainment of academic goals and achievement.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with scholars, families, and colleagues in ways that exemplify the Argosy Collegiate DREAM values.
  • Assess scholars’ language proficiency levels using WIDA-Screener and WIDA-ACCESS assessments.
  • Support teachers with instructional practices making language accessible for all learners in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
  • Engage with families in a way that is culturally responsive and collaborative to ensure that all families are welcome and can contribute to the classroom, school, and community’s effectiveness; work with colleagues to identify and remove barriers to families’ involvement, including but not limited to families with limited access to technology, and families whose home language is not English.
  • Work collaboratively to identify each scholar’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs, including scholars with disabilities and English learners.
  • Provide regular, two-way, culturally responsive communication with families in ways that demonstrates understanding of and respect for different home languages, culture, and values.
  • Create a positive, warm, and achievement-oriented environment based on high expectations that engages, encourages, and motivates scholars to own their own learning, behaviors, and choices.
  • Hold all scholars to a high bar of excellence, integrity, and accountability.
  • Work with school leadership to ensure discipline policies, systems and routines, and classroom management expectations are consistently and effectively enacted.
  • Effectively communicate with scholars, families, and colleagues in ways that exemplify the DREAM values.
  • Consistently fulfill all professional responsibilities, including punctuality and reliability, and adhere to district attendance policies; submit deliverables in a timely fashion.
  • Attend and actively engage in all professional development, data-analysis, and planning meetings.
  • Demonstrate a reflective and solutions-oriented disposition during problem-solving opportunities, collaboration with colleagues, team leaders, and school leadership to improve instructional, cultural, and leadership systems and structures.
  • Engage in a continuous cycle of feedback and improvement regarding instruction, planning, and classroom culture.
  • Demonstrate sound, professional judgment, adhere to school and/or district’s existing code of ethics, and protect student, family, and staff confidentiality.
