High School ELA Teacher
About The Position
Detroit Community Schools is hiring a full time High School ELA Teacher. Must have Michigan teacher certification and endorsement in the subject. At DCS, we believe that Education is Power. Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Language Arts Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching literature, writing, and language skills to middle school students. This individual will create a stimulating classroom environment, encourage student engagement and participation, and foster a love for reading and writing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification/license for the relevant state.
- Experience in teaching high school students is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of English language and literature.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Commitment to professional development and staying current with educational best practices
- Michigan teacher certification and endorsement in the subject.
Responsibilities
- Teach a diverse curriculum that includes literature, composition, grammar, and language usage while considering varied learning styles and needs.
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
- Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
- Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
- Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
