About The Position

Uwharrie Charter Academy is seeking an innovative, student-centered High School Earth Science Teacher who is passionate about creating engaging learning experiences that connect science concepts to the real world. The ideal candidate will possess strong classroom management skills, a commitment to academic excellence, and the ability to design meaningful lessons that incorporate problem-based and project-based learning. This educator will inspire students to explore Earth systems, environmental challenges, geology, meteorology, and other Earth Science concepts through hands-on investigations, collaborative learning, and authentic applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.
  • Eligibility to hold or obtain a North Carolina teaching license.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and instructional planning abilities.
  • Ability to create engaging lessons that connect learning to real-world applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching high school science courses.
  • Experience implementing project-based learning (PBL) and problem-based learning instructional models.
  • Familiarity with integrating technology into science instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students through hands-on investigations and experiential learning.
  • AP experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teach high school Earth Science courses aligned with North Carolina Standards.
  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lessons that connect scientific concepts to real-world experiences and current environmental issues.
  • Design and facilitate problem-based and project-based learning opportunities that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and student inquiry.
  • Create a positive, structured, and well-managed classroom environment that promotes student engagement and academic success.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and laboratory experiences to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instruction.
  • Foster scientific literacy, curiosity, and a growth mindset among students.
  • Maintain accurate records, communicate effectively with students and families, and participate in school-wide initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities and continuous school improvement.
  • Participate in professional development and school events as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
