About The Position

The High School Dance Coach is responsible for providing instruction and coaching to students in competitive dance techniques as a means of developing dance skills and contributing to all student athlete success in the classroom. The High School Dance Coach is further responsible for encouraging sportsmanlike conduct amongst all students and staff.

Requirements

  • Candidate must hold, or be eligible to hold, a NFHS Cheer & Dance endorsement or comparable endorsement.
  • Ability to use effective communication skills
  • Robust knowledge of the sport of dance including strategy, rules, and coaching
  • Ability to use time effectively
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors)
  • Knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents
  • Ability to lead meetings
  • Ability to help coaches achieve consensus
  • Vision (which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
  • Hearing (which may be corrected) to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.
  • Speech to be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone.
  • Upper Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at the wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower the head.
  • Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 50 or more pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work outdoors and indoors.
  • Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile, and coordinate information and records.

  • 1+ years of experience as a high school assistant dance sponsor.
  • Valid Wyoming teaching certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Uses a variety of coaching techniques and methods along with media to meet the needs of student athletes and the dance program as a means of improving the abilities of student athletes in the assigned sport.
  • Assists in the management and supervision of all high school dance activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Works with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall educational development of student athletes.
  • Helps to establish performance criteria for competition and evaluates student athletic abilities on an initial and regular basis.
  • Ensures all necessary precautions and safeguards are in place to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Monitors and enforces student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Works with the High School Athletic Director and other coaches to schedule competitions and coordinate appropriate arrangements.
  • Coaches and instructs student athletes, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Accompanies and supervises student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports when traveling to compete.
  • Instructs and advises student athletes on NCAA regulations specific to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting purposes.
  • Helps to maintain a regular system of files containing all material relevant to the dance program including eligibility forms, transfer forms, grade reports, and ensures that all ACSD#1 District policies are followed.
  • Assists in the enforcement of student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips of school property in accordance with ACSD#1 policies and the student handbook.
  • Encourages sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, teachers, and Athletic Director.
  • Assists in the maintenance of an inventory of all fixed assets of the cheerleading program.
  • Oversees process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all program athletic equipment.
  • Annually establishes and meets performance goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
