About The Position

SmartStart Education seeks a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher's Assistant to work with high school students. This role involves supporting the CTE teacher in delivering instruction, managing the classroom and lab, providing administrative assistance, and engaging with students. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching and making a positive impact on urban, working-class youth.

Requirements

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution in any field is mandatory.
Demonstrated experience of at least 6 months in working within a school environment or another learning and development setting.
Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
Display of genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
Familiarity with tools, equipment, and safety protocols in the assigned Trade School field.
Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
Ability to manage time, multitask, and adapt to dynamic classroom environments.
Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
Ability to comfortably navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a classroom or technical/vocational setting highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the CTE School teacher with the preparation and delivery of instructional materials and activities.
Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students needing extra help.
Supervise students during classroom activities, labs, and off-site projects.
Help students operate tools, equipment, and technology used in the Trade School program.
Set up and organize classroom and lab equipment and materials.
Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained, and stored properly.
Support safety practices by monitoring student use of tools and enforcing safety rules.
Assist with grading, record-keeping, and data entry under the direction of the teacher.
Prepare instructional materials such as handouts, charts, and visual aids.
Encourage student participation and help maintain a positive learning environment.
Monitor student behavior and report concerns to the CTE teacher or administration.
Support students in developing soft skills, such as teamwork, time management, and workplace etiquette.
