About The Position

Connections Academy is dedicated to providing high-quality, accountable online education for students in grades K-12. Washington Connections Academy (WACA) is a tuition-free, virtual public school serving students in grades K-12 statewide. This remote, full-time position involves managing instructional programs through telephone, internet, and curriculum tools, with regular consultation with caretakers, Learning Coaches, and students to ensure successful completion of their instructional programs. The role requires active participation in homeroom duties, content delivery, communication, community building, and administrative tasks.

Requirements

• Washington teacher certification in Health Support Service Careers (V510710) or other CTE Credentials
• Residence in Washington preferred
• Team player track record, highly flexible, and demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated strong technology skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, Nearpod, data collection tools)
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and families from diverse backgrounds
• Excellent attention to detail, with proven time management and organizational skills, especially when working independently
• Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues to foster an inclusive work and school environment
• Student- and family-focused approach, with demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment
• Ability to travel for one, possibly two, weeks at a time for key school events, including overnight travel
• Must be able to use a personal electronic device and email address for 2-step authentication.

Responsibilities

• Hosting a homeroom of students, acting as a role model and mentor, including hosting weekly LiveLessons, supporting students and families through key school year tasks, and encouraging student engagement.
• Welcoming new students and families, providing support for academic progress, skill building, and graduation/promotion.
• Supplementing and enhancing asynchronous content with synchronous LiveLessons or office hours, and delivering asynchronous support videos.
• Operating within the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports model, providing differentiated instruction, and developing/implementing interventions.
• Grading submitted assignments within 8 days, providing clear and constructive feedback.
• Reviewing curriculum and devising alternate approaches to increase student understanding.
• Developing a detailed knowledge of assigned courses and a general knowledge of the 9-12 curriculum.
• Supporting students and caretakers with alternate lessons, assessments, strategies, and daily assignments.
• Consulting with instructional staff and learning specialists to develop enrichment activities and modifications.
• Communicating regularly with caretakers, students, and instructional staff via computer and telephone.
• Connecting with each content area student individually at least once each semester.
• Logging all contacts within 24 hours.
• Meeting weekly student contact requirements.
• Coordinating and attending social activities and field trips for students and families.
• Devising and implementing virtual methods for creating and maintaining a school community.
• Participating in state testing, including in-person proctoring.
• Participating in student recruiting sessions and marketing efforts.
• Collaborating as a member of IEP and 504 teams, sharing insights and providing feedback.
• Working collaboratively within a professional learning community to review student progress data and improve teaching practices.
• Ensuring students and families receive appropriate communications and students are making adequate progress.
• Attending and participating in in-person training sessions and team-building activities.
• Reporting and referring critical incidents that jeopardize student well-being.
• Participating in professional development and training, including SEL and DEI.
• Completing duties of assigned representative or Career Ladder positions.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
