About The Position

Salem Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Salem Prep High School to engage students in credit recovery coursework. This role is part of the Special Education Team and requires a commitment to urban education and improving student achievement for all students. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required within 1-year of start date)
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
  • Safety Care Trained or willing to be trained
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting
  • Proven track record of raising student achievement scores in an urban/turnaround environment
  • Proficiency with technology (blended learning, teacher/family communication suites, Google G-Suite Apps, etc.)
  • Second Language (Spanish or Portuguese) Proficiency

Responsibilities

  • Engage students in credit recovery coursework.
  • Provide specialized instruction for credit recovery in all curriculum areas.
  • Maintain consistent communication and positive student management skills.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and parents.
  • Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other school personnel to ensure consistency in implementing classroom goals and IEP accommodations/modifications.
  • Meet with the special education supervisor as necessary.
  • Work flexible hours, including summer hours, to meet student needs.

  • Compensation for time worked after hours or in the summer at the contractual hourly rate of $45.00 per hour.
