About The Position

To provide a comprehensive guidance program for students, consisting of guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support components as outlined in the South Carolina Comprehensive Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program Model. This role involves consulting with administration, teachers, parents, and staff to enhance effectiveness in helping students and to provide support and assistance to other educational programs within the school and district.

Requirements

  • Possess a current and valid South Carolina certification in Guidance and Counseling at specific level.
  • Have a working knowledge and understanding of the components of the South Carolina Comprehensive Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program Model.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing the South Carolina Comprehensive Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program Model for the high school guidance program through classroom guidance, individual and group counseling, and infusion in content areas.
  • Counseling individuals and groups of students toward the promotion of academic growth and career development.
  • Monitoring student academic performance and verifying requirements for graduation.
  • Counseling and guiding students in developing and updating an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP).
  • Counseling individuals and small groups of students toward personal/social and emotional growth in assisting students to set realistic goals.
  • Consulting with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students and to enhance their effectiveness in helping students.
  • Referring students to special programs, specialists, and/or community agencies, and consulting with parents regarding referrals when appropriate.
  • Participating in, coordinating, and conducting activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school.
  • Participating in the intervention-team process and/or the school's student support team in the development of realistic interventions to meet student needs.
  • Planning and evaluating the counseling program.
  • Pursuing continuous professional growth and development through workshops, lectures, and institutes to enhance job performance.
  • Performing any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator that serve to promote the social and academic well-being of students.
