About The Position

Rochelle Zell Jewish High School in Deerfield is seeking a compassionate, professional, and collaborative School Counselor. This role involves providing social-emotional support, fostering student well-being, building strong relationships, and supporting students' academic and social-emotional growth. The counselor will also develop programming for students, parents, and the broader community. This is an opportunity to join a professional faculty at a school with a dual curriculum in General and Jewish Studies. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Valid state certification/licensure as a school counselor
  • Expertise in social-emotional support and student wellness
  • Experience developing and presenting SEL programming for students, parents, and the broader community
  • Strong relationship-building skills across students, families, and professional colleagues
  • Ability to respond to crisis situations with calm, professional judgment

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling focused on social-emotional development, mental health, and student well-being
  • Support students navigating personal, academic, and peer-related challenges; respond to crisis situations with appropriate interventions and referrals
  • Partner with faculty, administration, and the school social worker to develop collaborative approaches and supports for student cases
  • Communicate proactively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and well-being
  • Serve as liaison between the school and outside service providers, including therapists and PHP/IOP programs
  • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate counseling curriculum — advisory, workshops, and SEL programming
  • Lead initiatives related to student wellness, mental health, and belonging
  • Participate in Student Services Team meetings and attend school programming, including Shabbatonim, the Junior Trip, and other overnight and extracurricular events
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with legal and ethical standards
