This position is for a High School Counselor on a 194-day contract with an additional stipend for 10 days. The role requires a Master’s degree and an Iowa license with a Professional School Counselor 5-12 endorsement. Key attributes include strong interpersonal, communication (verbal & written), and administrative/management skills, along with a student-centered philosophy. The counselor will be responsible for guiding students in making appropriate educational and life choices, maintaining resources, and utilizing various counseling techniques to meet student needs. This includes parent conferences, staffings, teacher conferences, school orientation, and job placement. The role also involves supporting career and postsecondary education, particularly with concurrent enrollment programs. The counselor must express concern for all students, demonstrate understanding and acceptance of diverse backgrounds, and maintain professional confidentiality. They will work cooperatively with students, parents, and staff, promote a positive image of the school district, and participate in professional growth opportunities and curriculum development.
