About The Position

Laurel Springs School, a subsidiary of Spring Education Group, is a WASC-accredited online private school established in 1991. It offers flexible and personalized online learning experiences for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The High School Counselor (9th - 12th Grade) is responsible for developing and implementing programs that support the academic and social development of students in grades 9-12. This role requires extensive experience and proficiency in addressing the specific needs of the school and individual students.

Requirements

Master’s degree
Active School Counseling certification and commitment to ongoing compliance with state and local regulations relating to background checks and credentials.
3+ years of experience counseling or working in a school setting supporting specifically high school students.
Experience with implementing group programs with measurable objectives.
Excellent skills with word processing, productivity, communication, and educational technology tools; expertise with G-Suite, Learning Management Systems, and Student Information Systems strongly preferred.
Strong analytical, interpretive, evaluative, and constructive thinking, and organizational skills.
Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Access to dependable and high-quality internet and a quiet work space that allows the counselor to be fully present and available to students, parents, and colleagues as needed during work hours (Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 5pm ET).
Ability to travel to attend in-person events, meetings, and training opportunities on occasion.

Responsibilities

Respond to students’ academic and social/emotional needs through developmentally appropriate interventions.
Assess student abilities, interests, and achievement to help them make decisions about their future and guide them in career planning.
Communicate proactively and responsively with students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators via various communication tools.
Cultivate collaborative relationships with high school teachers and advisors to establish wrap-around support for all students.
Lead live monthly webinar sessions for students and guardians focusing on academic, career, and social/emotional development.
Plan and implement group counseling opportunities based on data analysis.
Support individual student academic, social/emotional, and college/career needs through one-on-one meetings.
Collaborate with middle school and College Counselors to develop a vertically aligned, comprehensive school counseling program, focusing on transition programming.
Support and encourage enrollment through active participation in virtual open houses and re-enrollment conversations.
Use data to identify programming priorities and assess effectiveness.
Create regular meaningful communications, such as newsletters, tailored to student needs.
Participate collaboratively and professionally in school-wide meetings, events, communications, and activities, including some evening virtual events.
Engage in ongoing professional development, self-assessment, and continuous improvement.
Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and company operations.
Perform other counseling related duties as assigned.
