About The Position

Bishop McNamara High School is seeking a High School & College Counselor to join their Counseling Department for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves assisting and guiding students in their personal, social, emotional, spiritual, academic, and college and career development. The counselor will work with an assigned grade-level, collaborating with colleagues and families to support the school's mission of fostering student growth in knowledge, skills, understanding, and character. The position is within a supportive team environment, consistent with the Holy Cross tradition of education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
  • School Counseling related license(s) preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to listen well, and to positively represent the organization and its mission.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, as well as Google Workspace.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer.
  • Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, and the community for student success.
  • Provide comprehensive understanding of college admissions processes.
  • Offer student academic planning and goal setting.
  • Identify student issues, needs, and challenges.
  • Help students apply academic achievement strategies.
  • Conduct counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards.
  • Maintain current awareness of college admissions trends, standardized testing policies, and higher education developments.
  • Guide students through all stages of the college search and application process.
  • Provide career exploration guidance integrated with academic and college planning.
  • Assist students in identifying personal strengths, interests, and post-secondary goals.
  • Guide students in resume preparation and professional development skills.
  • Refer students for long-term support.
