About The Position

Provides leadership and administrative support for the implementation and sustainability of career academies and smaller learning communities. The focus is on college and career readiness for all students, achieved through a strategic, collaborative system among the school/district, business/industry partners, community organizations, and post-secondary institutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field (required)
  • High school classroom teaching experience
  • Minimum of three years demonstrated transformational leadership in a high school or educational setting
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with businesses, community agencies and post-secondary institutions
  • Kentucky Teaching Certificate – High School
  • Must hold a valid Kentucky Principal Certificate
  • Interest and desire to promote academies and smaller learning communities
  • Task oriented and capable of understanding the “big picture”
  • Working knowledge of college and career readiness and preparation.
  • Working knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Ability to produce, analyze, interpret, and summarize data.
  • Ability to interpret policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills and project management
  • Ability to evaluate programs and practices and develop short and long term plans.
  • Knowledge and understanding of counseling programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple audiences including faculty, staff, students, families, post-secondary institutions and business/industry professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate in more than one language or the willingness to learn to communicate in more than one language at the novice level of proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the liaison among faculty and leadership in the school in developing and sustaining career academies.
  • Serve as liaison between school and the district office responsible for high school career academies.
  • Serve as the contact person for business and community engagement.
  • Attend regular meetings with the district office and other academy coaches to build a web of support and knowledge.
  • Facilitate The Academies of Lexington 5-year academy plan in his/her high school.
  • Ensure the completion of action plan, calendar of events, budget, Program of Studies for career academies.
  • Work directly with outside agencies to create, promote and maintain partnerships for career academies.
  • Foster and sustain business and community relationships (attend partnership council meetings and other meetings for networking and developing post-secondary and business and community support).
  • Facilitate the development, training and implementation of advisory boards for each school academy.
  • Serve on master scheduling team which monitors and updates scheduling of students for proper placement and purity in career academies.
  • Work with administration, college and career coaches, and guidance counselors to ensure delivery of an advisor/advisee program for all grade levels.
  • Facilitate job shadowing, student internships, teacher externships, guest speakers, field trips, and other experiential learning experiences for students and teachers outside of the classroom.
  • Attend academy team meetings to provide support for implementation of reform initiatives to increase attendance, reduce discipline problems, improve student achievement, and increase graduation rates.
  • Promote and participate in professional learning communities within the school.
  • Identify and participate in professional learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with assistant principals, team leaders, teachers and instructional coaches to coordinate the implementation and sustainability of high school reform initiatives and their impact on instruction.
  • Coordinate and support problem-based and integrated curricula with academy teams to impact student achievement.
  • Facilitate middle to high transition plan with feeder middle schools.
  • Facilitate the organization and implementation of Academy Showcases and Open Houses.
  • Serve on school leadership team to align district initiatives with the School Improvement Plan.
  • Maintain community investment data for business and community involvement.
  • Analyze and communicate school data for use in planning and school improvement.
  • Communicate academy information with media and district Communications office.
  • Supervises staff as needed and required.
  • Evaluates staff as needed and required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate in more than one language or the willingness to learn to communicate in more than one language at the novice level of proficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
