About The Position

The High School Boys Swimming Assistant Coach is responsible for instructing athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success. This role also focuses on fostering moral values, pride in accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence in student-athletes. The position involves full responsibility for the overall supervision of swimming programs at various levels (Varsity, JV, Freshmen, and Middle School) and ensuring compliance with MSHSAA rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be certified in CPR/First Aid/AED.

Responsibilities

  • Full responsibility for the overall supervision of his/her programs (Varsity, JV, Freshmen and Middle School).
  • Responsible for knowing, understanding and implementing MSHSAA rules and regulations and attending the mandatory rules clinic and coaches meetings.
  • Responsible for verifying each athlete’s academic and medical eligibility.
  • Supervise and conduct practices and contests in a safe manner.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Manage uniforms, equipment and facilities in a responsible manner.
  • Notify the Athletic Director of annual budgetary needs.
  • Work toward building and teaching good sportsmanship, cooperative work ethic and responsibility.
  • Work toward developing good public relations with the parents, school, booster club and community.
  • Communicate with the Athletic Director, administrators, assistant coaches, players and parents.
  • Direct injured athletes to the trainer and report injuries to the nurse.
  • Provide team rules and practice schedules to athletes, parents and Athletic Director.
  • Teach relevant skills, tactics and techniques.
  • Monitor and enhance performance by providing encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Assess strengths and weaknesses in a participant’s performance and identifying areas for further development.
  • Adapt to the needs and interests of the group or individual participant.
  • Communicate instructions and commands using clear, simple language.
  • Demonstrate an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence.
  • Encourage participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge, and techniques.
  • Ensure participants train and perform to a high standard of health and safety at all times.
