About The Position

This is a 1.0 FTE Contract position for a High School Art Teacher at Kennewick High School. The posting dates are from 07/15/2026 to 07/24/2026. Requirements

  • Valid current Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for high school with endorsement in Art.
  • Satisfactory evaluations.
  • Completion of Safe Schools web based training is required as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements for Art Education.
  • Endorsement in second core subject area.
  • Evidence of recent successful experience working with students in a multicultural educational setting, with a belief and desire to teach all students.
  • High school teaching experience in Art within the past five years.
  • Evidence of high standards in classroom management and student achievement.
  • Broad teaching repertoire, including instructional approaches for inclusion, differentiation, and standards based proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of introductory art/drawing courses, including International Baccalaureate courses and/or students as assigned by the principal.
  • Participate as a team member of the visual arts department in a collaborative and cooperative manner.
  • Communicate regularly and positively with students and parents regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and productive learning environment.
  • Ability to teach in a second endorsement area.
  • Support and uphold all Kennewick High School rules and District-wide policies.
  • Actively participate in and assist with the development of the art curriculum as a part of a continuing evolutionary process as mandated by the Commission on Student Learning and the District Strategic Plan.
  • Provide for art education to be integrated with other core subject learning across the curriculum.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental PLC, projects/activities, and school wide efforts to promote the arts.
  • Willingness to provide opportunities for students interested in pursuing art as a career objective such as linking with local artists, Allied Arts Council, or developing professional portfolios.
