About The Position

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the 26-27 school year to serve as a Social Studies Teacher. This position will start as soon as possible and will teach 2 periods of AP US History daily. Only teachers trained to teach AP US History will be considered. Schools currently hiring for this position include: East High School This position is PART-TIME (about 10 hours per week) and does not confer insurance benefits. This position is only guaranteed for the 26-27 school year.

Requirements

Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment).
Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
Only teachers trained to teach AP US History will be considered.

Nice To Haves

Previous classroom teaching experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
Monitor student learning on a daily basis.
Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
Communicate with families on a regular basis.
Participate in professional development.
Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
Maintain confidentiality.
Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
