About The Position

The Herdsperson reports to the Sow Farm Manager and is responsible for the daily care, health, and maintenance of pigs at a designated work site. The role includes caring for and moving pigs, supporting sow breeding and pregnancy checks, monitoring and treating animals, maintaining facilities, and keeping accurate records. No previous experience working with pigs is required. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., though hours may vary based on business needs. A rotating weekend and holiday schedule is required. Compensation is hourly and competitive based on experience, with quarterly bonuses and a benefits package available to full-time employees.

Requirements

Dependable and able to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to frequently bend, reach, squat, and kneel.
Ability to stand, walk, and be on one's feet for 9 or more hours per day.
Ability to work a rotating weekend and holiday schedule.
No previous experience working with pigs is required.

Responsibilities

Provide daily care for pigs.
Sort pigs.
Perform monthly maintenance, such as cleaning dryer vents, greasing anchor bearings, and baiting.
Order feed.
Understand and follow the Holden Farms Biosecurity Program.
Power wash farrowing rooms and hallways.
Move pigs.
Perform castration.
Feed pigs and check water supplies.
Perform heat detection on sows.
Breed sows through artificial insemination.
Conduct pregnancy checks.
Monitor and treat sows as needed by administering vaccines and medicines.
Clean facilities and perform minor maintenance.
Keep detailed and accurate records.
Perform other site maintenance as needed.
