The Hemodialysis Technician, under direct supervision, is responsible for preparing and sterilizing dialysis and Reverse Osmosis equipment before and after each hemodialysis session. This role involves delivering equipment and supplies to patient rooms, assisting nurses with equipment setup and breakdown, and performing quality control procedures such as machine and water testing and routine maintenance. The technician also manages supply inventory, ordering, and restocking, and works collaboratively with staff and other departments to uphold hemodialysis standards of care. Maintaining confidentiality and supporting compliance with departmental policies and procedures are key aspects of the role. Additionally, the technician may assist Registered Nurses with the annulation and removal of needles from grafts and fistulas, and may initiate and discontinue hemodialysis treatments under RN supervision specifically within the dialysis unit.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a dialysis preparation course AND one year of patient care experience in a dialysis facility or acute dialysis setting OR two years of patient care experience in a dialysis facility or acute dialysis setting

Responsibilities

Prepares dialysis and Reverse Osmosis equipment before each hemodialysis session
Cleans and sterilizes machines per protocol after each dialysis session
Delivers equipment and supplies to patient room as scheduled
Assists nurse with set up and break down of equipment in patient room before and after hemodialysis
Performs quality control procedures (e.g., machine and water testing, routine maintenance) on machines

Works cooperatively with staff and other departments in maintaining hemodialysis standards of care
Supports compliance with departmental policies and procedures
