About The Position

The Hemodialysis Technician III assists nurses with patient and non-patient care, maintains hemodialysis machinery, orders water source and machine supplies, and performs minor repairs, maintenance, and preventative maintenance on hemodialysis machines and water sources. This role involves direct patient interaction, equipment management, and inventory control to ensure the smooth operation of the dialysis unit.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must have graduated from Certified Dialysis Technician program or complete this program within 18 months of hire.
  • Minimum five years patient care experience required.
  • Three to five years of dialysis experience required.
  • Ability to discern colors.
  • Ability to follow diagrams and detailed written instructions.
  • Skilled at organizing time in order to manage several different tasks.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Skill in communication.
  • Must be willing to work at both Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals.
  • Some time flexibility required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with feeding patients, moving and positioning patients, and removal and insertion of AV fistula/graft needles.
  • Perform accucheck tests, obtain weights and vital signs, and perform escort duties including transferring patients.
  • String and test conductivity and pH of machines.
  • Move dialysis equipment to other areas of the hospitals.
  • Cap off PD patients and maintain PD inventory.
  • Control inventory by ordering supplies from both the hospital supply room and outside vendors.
  • Stock patient care areas.
  • Perform daily water room monitoring.
  • Obtain cultures monthly and PRN from RO machines at both Wilmington and Christiana Hospitals.
  • Clean and disinfect RO machines monthly and PRN at Wilmington and Christiana.
  • Obtain cultures monthly and PRN on portable dialysis machines at both locations.
  • Clean and disinfect portable dialysis machines at both locations.
  • Provide minor maintenance and repairs on dialysis machines.
  • Maintain records of cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of dialysis machines.
  • Perform quarterly disafe filter replacement.
  • Perform monthly micron filter replacement.
  • Perform semi-annual re-bedding of Carbon tanks.
  • Perform semi-annual endotoxin filter replacement.
  • Perform quarterly low & high pH descale cleaning.
  • Perform multi-media and softener re-bed every 2 years.
  • Obtain, monitor and document yearly and monthly bacterial cultures and endotoxin results.
  • Maintain compliance with AAMI standards.
  • Orient staff to water source.
  • Educate staff regarding machine troubleshooting.
  • Attend water source maintenance continuing education & training as required.
  • Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
  • Report to supervisor in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations.
  • Mentor and orient new staff.
  • Educate staff on trouble shooting and maintenance.
