About The Position

We are currently searching for a Hematopathologist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is a part-time opportunity based in Bethesda, MD. As a member of the senior staff, provide support to the Bone Marrow Service with equal assignments as primary and secondary attending. The number of service weeks assigned may be adjusted based on research and administrative commitments. As primary attending, you will work with the Hematopathology Fellow and train the Fellow in diagnosis of bone marrow pathology; staff peripheral blood pathology reviews from the technologists; staff peripheral blood review requests from clinicians; and handle walk-in pathology consults from clinicians. As secondary attending, you will work with the Hematopathologist Assistant, who supports the Pathologist, in preparation of bone marrow reports, ordering of ancillary testing, etc. You will also direct at least one of the sub-sections of Hematology, including: Automated Hematology, Coagulation, Bone Marrow Pathology, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Hematology (NGS and chimerism), and the emerging area of Digital Pathology. Work closely with the Chief Tech, team leaders, specialists, and technologists for that sub-section. Function as a consultant to clinicians regarding test results of that sub-section, which may require attending clinical conferences and signing out testing specific to that sub-section. For some sub-sections, tests may also be signed out by other senior staff and results may be incorporated into bone marrow reports, etc. Review and guide Quality Control/Quality Assurance, policies, SOPs, CAP surveys, and instrument validation plans/summaries; evaluate emerging technologies. Ensure the lab provides high-quality, reliable patient laboratory results. Give lectures/seminars to the lab staff and for the residency and fellowship programs, as requested.
