About The Position

The Hematology Technician IV performs laboratory analyses and tests. Prepares samples, sets up instruments, runs tests and reads, interprets and releases results. The work shift is Tuesday - Sunday, 1:00 AM to 9:30 AM with a day off during the week. The target pay for this position is $30.05 an hour. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Biology or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or equivalent, with 2 years’ experience reading abnormal differentials in high volume operations.
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Parasitology procedures and equipment helpful.
  • General science background

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as appropriate

Nice To Haves

  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and runs lab tests
  • Read and releases test results.
  • Read all manual CBC, Avian and Exotic slides
  • Read UA slides at a minimum rate of 45 per hour, bacteria and path review slides at a rate of 50 slides per hour.
  • Build hematology and UA loads.
  • Perform all required quality control per QA guidelines including all instrument maintenance and temperature charts.
  • Find missing specimens. Print and reconcile queue list.
  • May assist with training new hires.
  • Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.
  • Awareness of quality control and calibration.
  • Cross-train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
  • Applies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.
  • Reads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex Hematology tasks to learn through experience.
  • May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
