About The Position

As a Helper in the Operations and Construction Department for New York City, you will experience the personal challenge of working for a world class organization and leader in the Utilities and Energy Industry.

Requirements

Three years similar or related work.
Mechanically inclined and capable of performing strenuous work.
Applicant will be required to demonstrate the mental ability and aptitude to progress to hire classifications.
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid Driver’s License required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
Must successfully complete the following: DOT Physical, Respirator Fit Level 1 - Pre-assessment testing, regulatory safety training, traffic control/flagger training, Gas Fundamentals training, Abnormal Operating Condition Operator qualification training, Soft-Tissue Injury Prevention training, and Helper-specific training programs.
Pass Field Assessment Test.

Nice To Haves

Plumbing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform traffic control, flagging functions.
Perform manual-laboring work such as digging, backfilling, breaking and removing pavement (asphalt/concrete).
Work with heavy pneumatic tools.
Provide physical assistance for setting up and operating underground tools.
Work with higher-classified personnel by performing laboring functions in connection with the higher classification.
Perform strenuous work throughout the day including squatting, walking, lifting tools and materials greater than 80lbs.
Perform similar or less-skilled work as assigned.
