About The Position

Responsible for daily operations and leadership of the base aviation team, ensuring safety is the top priority in all activities. This role ensures aircraft and weather conditions are suitable for transporting medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within the assigned operational area. The Helicopter Pilot must comply with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual (GOM) guidelines, and possess thorough knowledge of Air Methods policies and procedures. They serve as a role model for staff and must meet and maintain all credentials and qualifications required of a Line Pilot.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Pilots must have flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the previous 24 months.
  • Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals and the public.
  • Strives to maintain a friendly and professional working environment.
  • Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Program.
  • 2000 total flight hours with a minimum of 1500 flight hours in category.

Responsibilities

  • Operates Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner.
  • Completes pre-flight checks to verify aircraft airworthiness, signing off the Daily Flight Log.
  • Performs a complete walk-around of the aircraft before and after each flight.
  • Holds final authority regarding aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
  • Ensures familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems, including backup aircraft, and ensures the medical flight team is also familiar and comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
  • Responsible for the completion of required documentation.
  • Able to conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards.
  • Participates in outreach and marketing programs to area hospitals and EMS systems.
  • Provides input to Aviation staff evaluations as requested by the Area Manager/RAM.
  • Functions as a liaison to the Aviation specialty team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
