Flight missions include mine reclamation aerial surveys, Fish & Wildlife surveys, Counter Drug flights with State Police and Air Guard, as well as flying department personnel on state business across multiple cabinets.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid commercial pilot's license with a helicopter rating and an instrument rating, with a minimum of 1,500 hours of flying time, which must have been in helicopters.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Annual Flight physical required.

Responsibilities

  • Pilot in Command (PIC) of a Bell 206 Helicopter on state missions.
  • Operates turbine powered helicopter in the transportation of personnel and aerial services for state agencies.
  • Plans and coordinates flight planning and mission coordination with customers.
  • Maintains aircraft records, prepares and submits records and reports required by the state and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
  • Conducts maintenance acceptance flights and aircraft reposition flights.
  • Occasional supportive work that assists the department in developing procedures, improving operational safety, and aviation education.
  • Attends training, seminars, and conferences on behalf of the department.
