This is service maintenance work at a skilled level in inspecting and performing preventive maintenance on heavy vehicles including compressed natural gas vehicles. The work requires knowledge of the techniques, methods, and procedures used to service heavy equipment and compressed natural gas vehicles as well as the ability to perform preventive maintenance services which is learned on the job or through specialized training. Contacts require basic courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others, and includes contacts to request or provide information, ask questions, or obtain clarification. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by procedures or precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment and search for solutions or new applications within ones known experiences. Work is performed both in a service garage environment and in the field where there are some risks and hazards are substantial, but are known, somewhat predictable and mostly controllable. Operates motor vehicles and uses equipment and tools necessary for performing preventive maintenance on heavy vehicles and compressed natural gas vehicles. Physical demands consist of bending, walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied, and the worker is permitted some latitude to set priorities subject to supervisor’s approval.
