About The Position

The Heavy Truck Operator Logistics operates a Class 8 straight truck and cargo van to pick up and deliver pharmaceuticals, supplies, equipment, mail, reports, and other materials to Geisinger locations according to assigned schedules or supervisor-designated pickups. The role supports patient care by completing scheduled routes and responding to urgent delivery needs across the health system. It includes receiving, inspecting, documenting, staging, and reporting on incoming shipments, as well as maintaining vehicle and equipment readiness. Work is typically performed in a transportation vehicle or office and requires lifting at least 50 pounds and sitting and driving for extended periods. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, on the day shift, based at Geisinger Multi-Specialty Clinic Forty-Fort.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver's license.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) DOT Physical Card.
At least two years of related work experience in commercial driving, logistics, transportation, route delivery, warehouse, or supply chain work.
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
Ability to sit and drive a vehicle for extended periods.
Communication, computer literacy, teamwork, and ability to follow HR policies, standards, and procedures and maintain confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

Experience operating Class 8 vehicles, straight trucks, box trucks, or similar commercial vehicles.

Responsibilities

Deliver pharmaceuticals, supplies, equipment, mail, and reports using a Class 8 straight truck or cargo van.
Load and unload vehicles safely, using appropriate methods for costly, perishable, and confidential materials.
Obtain signatures and maintain records of pickups, deliveries, driving and labor time, mileage, vehicle maintenance, and fuel purchases.
Respond to emergency unscheduled pickups and deliveries, contacting the supervisor to resolve schedule conflicts and adjust priorities.
Follow infection control procedures, safety standards, and traffic rules.
Receive incoming shipments and inspect containers for visible damage.
Compare packing lists with purchase orders, note discrepancies and carton counts, and sign freight bills for accepted shipments.
Maintain daily receiving records, file them appropriately, and compile daily statistics for monthly reports.
Contact buyers about discrepancies and report discrepancies, file damage claims, prepare exception reports, research discrepancies, and document findings as assigned.
Separate and stage deliveries for departments as assigned.
Complete training and certification for powered pallet jacks, order pickers, and fork trucks.
Inspect vehicles and equipment daily, complete inspection sheets, correct problems before operation, and tag equipment out of service until issues are corrected.
