About The Position

The Heavy Truck Driver safely transports specialized chemical, explosive, or radioactive freight across long or regional distances. They require specialized certifications to navigate extreme safety protocols, operate heavy-duty equipment and strictly comply with federal and state environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of technical courses in service, trade, or craft.
  • Possess and maintain a CDL with Hazmat endorsement for all types of vehicles driven (up to and over 4 tons)
  • Possess and maintain a valid state’s driver license
  • Minimum one (1) year experience driving a Hazardous Material Vehicle
  • OSHA Hazardous Communication Certification
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Handling Certification
  • Environmental Course Certification
  • DOD Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste Handler Course Certification
  • Hazardous Waste Central Accumulation Area (CAA) Training Certification
  • Forklift Certification
  • Transportation of Hazardous Material/Waste Certification
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to work independently using sound judgment, perform tasks normally associated with vehicle operations and operate heavy trucks in a reliable manner with public safety in mind.
  • Knowledge of manifest and shipping documents normally associated with the trucking and hazmat industry.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification preferred
  • Experience working on a government services contract, Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely haul hazardous materials
  • Ensure the correct placarding, labeling, and securing of all loads in compliance with federal guidelines
  • Check freight received/delivered against freight bill for accuracy
  • Operate equipment safely and practice personal safety.
  • Accomplish work in compliance with government and DOT regulations.
  • Identify material requirement listing for work in government acceptable format.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment operations shop inventory.
  • Maintain meticulous logs of working hours (via ELDs), driving records, and material manifests as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
  • Operate general and special purpose vehicles.
  • Perform safe work practices and procedures and adhere to occupational health standards.
  • Perform rigorous pre-trip, mid-trip, and post-trip inspections, focusing heavily on tank valves, safety equipment, and emergency brakes
  • Perform related duties as required, such as daily housekeeping and inventories as directed.
  • Ensure work orders when complete are properly filled out and returned to work management.
  • Oversee or participate in the hands-on loading, pumping, and unloading of materials, often requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Other duties as assigned
