About The Position

Summary Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the operation of all City trucks and heavy-duty equipment. May also be required to repair small engine equipment, electric and gas carts, forklifts, tractors, riding mowers, trailers, blowers and other city equipment. Pay Range: $23.75 - $26.78 (Depending on qualifications and experience) Work Schedule: Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call-out. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Service and repair firefighting apparatus components including pumps, aerial devices, fire suppression systems, and rescue equipment. Performs preventative maintenance, routine maintenance/repairs, and emergency repairs on all City-owned vehicles, including Automobiles, Light, Medium, and Heavy-Duty Trucks, Fire Apparatus and Ambulances. Operates a variety of machinery, tools, and equipment associated with repair, maintenance, and testing of emergency apparatus and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on City trucks, heavy-duty equipment and other city owned equipment and assets. Diagnose and repair city trucks, heavy-duty equipment, and smaller equipment. Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Order necessary parts as needed Respond to road calls. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 6 months to 1 year of advanced study beyond the high school level.
  • 3 years of related experience.
  • 1 Truck ASE Certification.
  • Must own basic hand and air tools.
  • Valid Class A or B Texas Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Must obtain 2 ASE Certifications within 1 year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible automotive and/or diesel repair experience, including at least two (2) years maintaining emergency or specialized vehicles; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License: Class A CDL required or obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems for emergency vehicles.
  • EVT Certification (Level I, II, or III) preferred.
  • ASE Certifications in automotive or medium/heavy truck repair preferred (T4 Heavy-Duty Truck, or T5 Heavy-Duty Truck, Suspension and Steering).
