About The Position

This position involves operating one or more types of specialized heavy automotive equipment and performing a variety of manual tasks in connection with such operations. The work requires greater skill and responsibility for the safety of others compared to operating other types of equipment. Additional responsibilities include making minor repairs to equipment and performing ordinary servicing. Supervision is received from a foreman who assigns tasks and inspects the work.

Requirements

• Graduation from High School or possession of a High School Equivalency diploma
• Minimum one year of experience in the operation of vehicles 26,000 pounds or more
• Class B, CDL with air brakes and a tanker endorsement
• Ability to Pass a D.O.T. pre-employment drug screen and physical.
• Ability to pass a skills test (road test).
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Knowledgeable of D.O.T. regulations.
• Must be 18 years or older with a clean Driver’s License.
• Graduation from High School or possession of a High School Equivalency diploma and a valid New York State Class B, CDL driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operates Construction Equipment, grader, sweeper, roller, caterpillar tractor with equipment and other types of heavy equipment in the construction and maintenance of streets.
• Operates heavy snowplow in the clearing of roads.
• May operate a tractor-trailer.
• Operates heavy equipment in connection with cutting banks, cutting and filling ditches, removing stumps, stripping gravel pits and related department tasks.
• Performs minor maintenance and repair work on assigned equipment.
• Loads and unloads vehicles.
• Performs a variety of simple manual tasks such as cleaning culverts, shoveling snow, painting and road maintenance work.
• May be required to work down to lower level position from time to time.
