About The Position

Assist Air Conditioning Foreman and mechanics in the performance of assigned duties. Provide support to other areas of Facilities services as requested. Assist in evaluating needs of each system to maintain critical heating and cooling systems on campus. Assist other utilities groups or departments in the performance and completion of various tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4 years of vocational school, can be substituted for 4 years of experience
  • Ability to understand standard equipment operating and handling safety protocols
  • Ability fit and weld components of mechanical systems
  • Mechanical knowledge and skills to service and repair HVAC systems and related equipment
  • Ability to maintain a good leave record
  • Ability to follow given instructions and keep records
  • Valid Driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Assist Foreman and other mechanics with monitoring, repairing, and installing air conditioning and heating systems on campus.
  • Monitor and correct any deficiencies in HVAC and refrigeration systems as directed.
  • Understand the type and purpose of each system used to maintain the buildings and areas of the entire campus.
  • Investigate technical problems and determine the best solution to maintain service to campus areas.
  • Instruct junior mechanics in the proper protocols and repair procedures.
  • Assist Foreman and other mechanics by performing fitting and welding of all mechanical systems and its components included but not limited to air and water cooled chillers, centrifugal water pumps, air / dirt separators, steam to water heat exchangers, cooling towers, air handling units, chilled water piping, condenser water piping, hydronic piping.
  • Study technical materials and repair manuals to increase knowledge of equipment and systems used on campus and the safety protocols needed for safe operations of all systems.
  • Report job information to supervision including any repairs or deficiencies found and the parts or materials needed to correct the condition.
  • Report and correct any unsafe practices or conditions to supervision.
