Responsible for performing general, non-mechanical laborer duties throughout the Plant. This includes sight inspecting and removing defects or extraneous material from product, preparing raw materials for production, and depositing fatback into cans by hand or meat depositor. The role requires physically lifting up to 100 pounds as needed, inspecting containers for seam integrity, proper lid placement, and fill levels. Additionally, the Heavy Laborer is responsible for maintaining a clean work area by sweeping, dumping, and disposing of production materials. They must understand how certain equipment operates and how to stop it if automatic functions fail, and should not leave their assigned work area without supervisor permission. Reporting any mechanical or safety issues immediately to the Supervisor and/or Leadperson is crucial. The position requires adherence to common safety practices, including wearing protective clothing and equipment, and maintaining plant hygiene standards for high product integrity. Following food safety, legality, and quality policies and procedures, such as GMP’s, HACCP, safety, product quality, food security, and plant security, is essential. Responsibilities also include assisting in loading and unloading kettles in retorts and operating a forklift, electric pallet jack, bobcat, and hoist when needed. Other duties may be assigned by the Supervisor and/or Leadperson.
