About The Position

The transport driver is primarily responsible to transport heavy equipment across the valley. This role involves operating, loading, and unloading oversized and/or overweight equipment, ensuring all loads are properly prepared, loaded, and secured before transport. The driver will also perform pre- and post-trip inspections, read and review permits for route and safety considerations, and prepare/stow auxiliary equipment. Compliance with all DOT, state, and local traffic laws, as well as company safety policies, is essential. The position also includes performing general maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and trailers, and accurately managing manifests. Some out-of-state travel is required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid Class A CDL with Doubles/Triples, Hazmat, and Tanker endorsements or the ability to obtain endorsements is required.
  • Valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate is required.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of all oversized/overweight hauling rules and regulations on federal, state, county, and city jurisdictions is required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test is required.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Acceptable MVR in accordance with Blount Company Vehicle Program policy is required.
  • Overnight travel will be required.
  • Ability to complete work tasks under various adverse weather conditions including heat in excess of 100 degrees, cold, and rain.
  • Basic Computer Skills Required (Email, Smart Phone, Excel).
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, loads, and unloads oversized and/or overweight equipment.
  • Ensures all loads are properly prepared, loaded, and secured before transport.
  • Performs thorough pre- and post-trip inspections of the load and truck.
  • Reads and reviews permits for route, special considerations, and safety provisions.
  • Prepares and stows vehicle, trailer, and auxiliary equipment (chains, straps, blocks, gears) before and after each trip.
  • Complies with all DOT, state, and local traffic and highway laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Safely operates all equipment in compliance with legal weight and load size limits.
  • Takes pictures of questionable machine damage and reports immediately.
  • Ensures all items transported are on the manifest and are accurate and error-free.
  • Performs general maintenance, minor repairs, and regular service on mobile equipment and equipment daily as directed by supervisor.
  • Utilizes mechanical and hydraulic trailer experience and performs minor maintenance on equipment as required.
  • Complies with all DOT and company policies, procedures, and standards of safety.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
