About The Position

A Heavy Fleet Mechanic inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and diesel-powered machinery. The role helps ensure fleet vehicles operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. The mechanic performs preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections; diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and engine-related problems; and maintains repair records. The role may include welding, fabrication, component rebuilding, roadside breakdown response, emergency repairs, parts and inventory management, and collaboration with fleet managers and operators. The work takes place in fleet maintenance shops, transportation and construction operations, and industrial facilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty trucks, trailers, or construction equipment.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools.
Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions.
Ability to travel as required, with the potential for overnight travel.
Frequently lift 50 lbs (23 kg) or more.
Stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
Work safely around heavy machinery and moving equipment.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections on heavy fleet vehicles and equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and engine-related issues.
Repair and replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, suspensions, and drivetrains.
Conduct computerized diagnostics using specialized testing equipment and software.
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
Perform welding, fabrication, and component rebuilding as needed.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company maintenance procedures.
Respond to roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs when required.
Inspect vehicles for compliance with transportation and safety standards.
Order and manage replacement parts and inventory.
Collaborate with fleet managers and operators to identify maintenance needs.
