About The Position

A Heavy Fleet Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and diesel-powered machinery. The role ensures fleet vehicles operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty trucks, trailers, or construction equipment.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools.
Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
Valid driver's license (CDL preferred).
Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions.
Ability to travel as required with the potential of overnights.

Certification in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment repair preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections on heavy fleet vehicles and equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and engine-related issues.
Repair and replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, suspensions, and drivetrains.
Conduct computerized diagnostics using specialized testing equipment and software.
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
Perform welding, fabrication, and component rebuilding as needed.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company maintenance procedures.
Respond to roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs when required.
Inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with transportation and safety standards.
Order and manage replacement parts and inventory.
Collaborate with fleet managers and operators to identify maintenance needs.
