About The Position

SMS Equipment is seeking registered 3rd year apprentices or Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technicians to join our team in Grande Prairie, AB. In this field service role, you’ll perform on-site repairs and equipment builds for construction machinery while operating from a service truck. If you’re a strong troubleshooter who enjoys diagnosing issues and supporting customers in the field, this is an opportunity to put your expertise to work with an industry leader. This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise). Requirements

  • Registered 3rd year apprentice or Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician
  • 1-2 years experience working in the field
  • Experience in repair/maintenance of heavy equipment: construction equipment preferred; candidates with agricultural or on-road truck experience may be considered
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Some positions may require the ability to travel and meet customer site requirements
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Komatsu equipment is considered an asset
  • Interprovincial Red Seal is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Performing assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs and complete overhauls on heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
  • Make recommendations regarding extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement.
  • Think logically and keep up with changes in technology.
  • Interpret work order and technical manuals.
  • Complete job specific reports and paperwork as needed.
  • Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety.
  • Motivated and able to work in a challenging environment with minimal supervision.
  • Work remotely in adverse weather conditions.
