About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy equipment to minimize downtime and support site operations. This role diagnoses electrical and hydraulic issues, coordinates repairs and preventative maintenance, and may travel between compost sites as needed. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, works independently, and is flexible to work outdoors and on weekends when required. Requirements

  • Successful candidates will ideally possess a Heavy Equipment Technician License.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic issues.
  • Basic computer knowledge as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills are preferred.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Must be flexible with working hours, as weekend and holiday work may be required to complete repairs and maintenance.
  • Must have valid G Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Must supply and maintain their own complete set of mechanic tools.

Responsibilities

  • Must adhere to Miller Waste Systems safety protocols and must be familiar with Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Maintaining and repairing site equipment to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Repair and service all equipment on site from loaders, excavators, skid steers, screening plants, grinders, pumps, generators, etc.
  • Work daily with the site operations management to coordinate downtime of equipment for repairs and service.
  • Operate and maintain company heavy equipment service truck while on the job site.
  • Manage and co-ordinate subcontracted work and equipment rentals.
  • Assist in improving the Preventative Maintenance program within the compost group.
  • Will be required to conduct repairs outdoors.
  • Will be required to travel to other compost yard when need to assist in repairs.
  • Must have strong organizational skills to work independently.
