About The Position
SMS Equipment is looking for a knowledgeable Heavy Equipment Technician, 3rd/4th Year Apprentice to join their highly skilled team at their Surrey, BC branch. This position will provide support and expertise working on industry-leading equipment, employing logic and deductive reasoning in diagnosing and troubleshooting. The role is part of a safety-driven team that values expertise and supports growth. This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise).
Requirements
- 3rd/4th year apprentice status in the Heavy Equipment Technician trade.
- Strong mechanical problem-solving skills and a commitment to safe, high-quality work
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in both team and customer-facing settings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Pre employment medical questionnaire
- Drug and Alcohol test

- 5 Year Commercial Drivers Abstract
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Komatsu equipment is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
- Diagnosing and repairing construction equipment
- Performing troubleshooting and major component replacements in shop and field environments
- Working with hydraulic and powertrain systems
- Ensuring timely, high-quality repairs whether working independently or in a team
- Following all safety procedures, including confined space and PPE requirements
- Make recommendations regarding the extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement.
