About The Position

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields. We're looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Shop Foreman to oversee daily maintenance and repair operations at our Charlotte shop. This position is responsible for supervising technicians, coordinating equipment repairs and maintenance, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. The Shop Foreman will provide technical guidance, manage shop workflow, oversee repair quality, and help maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment. This position is based at our Charlotte maintenance shop, with occasional travel to jobsites as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or diesel-mechanics training preferred.
• 5+ years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction, agricultural, mining, or industrial equipment.
• Prior supervisory or lead mechanic experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, powertrains, and heavy equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic information.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Experience with computerized maintenance-management or work-order systems preferred.
• Ability to prioritize multiple repairs and meet deadlines.
• Ability to operate or safely work around heavy equipment.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.
• Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL with hazmat endorsement (preferred)
• Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
• Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Technical or diesel-mechanics training preferred.

• Experience with computerized maintenance-management or work-order systems preferred.
• CDL with hazmat endorsement

Responsibilities

• Supervise, schedule, and coordinate daily work for shop technicians and mechanics.
• Assign repairs and maintenance based on technician skills, workload, and operational priorities.
• Diagnose and assist with complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel equipment issues.
• Perform quality control inspections on completed repairs to ensure equipment is safe, properly repaired, and ready to return to service.
• Monitor preventive maintenance schedules and ensure equipment receives timely service.
• Review work orders, estimate labor and parts requirements, and track repair progress.
• Coordinate parts, tools, outside vendors, and specialized repair services as needed.
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
• Communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and maintenance needs to shop management and field operations.
• Train, coach, and mentor technicians while promoting accountability and teamwork.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
• Help control labor, parts, and repair costs while minimizing equipment downtime.
• Support emergency and field-service repairs when needed.
