About The Position

Amentum is seeking a 1st shift Heavy Equipment Operator – GMT III Building Maintenance Technician for their Building Maintenance team in Greenville, SC. The typical hours are Monday - Friday; 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with potential variations based on customer demand and the requirement to work overtime, holidays, and weekends. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for providing advanced expertise in responding to heavy equipment work orders, troubleshooting, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy equipment. This role involves managing and operating machinery such as tractors, excavators, loaders, backhoes, cranes, track hoes, skid steers, and forklifts for tasks including earthmoving, grading, excavation, and material handling. The position also includes assisting with building maintenance and equipment services on a large campus.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in the field of heavy equipment operation as well as building maintenance and plumbing.
  • Must have hands-on experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of heavy equipment and building systems.
  • Proven experience operating heavy machinery in construction, mining, or utility projects.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance, and safety standards.
  • Experience working with and understanding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Friendly, cooperative, customer service-minded attitude; team player.
  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals and drawings.
  • Ability to analyze problems, recommend solutions, and initiate repairs.
  • Ability to apply proper safety practices and follow procedures while performing maintenance tasks.
  • U.S Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required.
  • May be required to work holidays and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications or licenses for operating specific equipment are preferred.
  • Construction experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operating heavy machinery safely and efficiently to complete customer work orders or projects.
  • Performing routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Specialized site mowing and bush hogging during warm months.
  • Demolition and recycling of various metal products using a track hoe.
  • Training and mentoring less experienced operators.
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks.
  • Adhering to safety protocols, wearing protective gear, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Assists in performing and responding to work orders associated with heavy equipment, buildings and building equipment.
  • Inspects major equipment and/or operating systems and takes corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensures all appropriate mechanical operations, standards, controls, and specifications, are maintained at a high level of quality.
  • Works within the context of a team and at times with minimal supervision.
  • Ensures excellent customer service and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
