Heavy Equipment Operator - B shift
About The Position
Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for their transfer station. This role is responsible for the loading, pushing, and transferring of solid waste material, ensuring the transfer station is maintained efficiently and professionally. The ideal candidate will be a team player with self-motivating traits, capable of operating heavy machinery and contributing to a safe and productive work environment. IWS is a leading provider of solid waste and recycling services in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, known for combining the resources of a large company with the values of a family-run business.
Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
- High school/GED education completed
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as Equipment Operator required.
- Fluency in English required
Nice To Haves
- Higher education is a plus.
- Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
- Spanish bilingual is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy duty equipment such as excavators and bucket loaders (yellow iron equipment), with various other small machinery
- Routinely set up and inspect equipment prior to operation
- Observe hand signals, grade stakes, or other markings when operating machines to perform work duties in compliance of safety specifications
- Receive written and oral instruction regarding material movement
- Move materials over short distances, around facility
- Maintain an efficient flow by loading transfer trailers to target load weight and reduce traffic congestion
- Create and maintain inclines or ramps
- Repair machinery and replace parts as needed
