Requirements

  • Completion of High School and/or equivalent
  • Knowledge of yard operations
  • Must have 2 years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.

  • Communication Skills: communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and/or via mobile radio devices

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of ferrous metals and classifications is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment to safely and efficiently unload and load ferrous materials.
  • Collaborate with the scale operator and office staff to unload customers and ensure a steady flow of traffic in and out of the yard, minimizing congestion.
  • Operate heavy motorized equipment used in loading/unloading of ferrous material, including, but not limited to loaders, cranes, grapple cranes, shear and other equipment used to support the variety of activities essential to the yard operations.
  • Ensure motorized equipment is properly maintained and perform preventative maintenance as required, including fluids, filter changes, and parts lubrication.
  • Thorough pre-shift daily checks are crucial to the longevity of our equipment.
  • Accountable for loading trucks and railcars accurately (proper weights), safely, efficiently, and communicate via radio to scale personnel for confirmation of material loaded and any issues that may come up.
  • Unload pipe trucks and trucks with oversize ferrous materials, safely and efficiently, clean (sweep) trailers of excess material.
  • Stockpile/sort metals and place in the designated areas.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records daily, weekly, and monthly and/or as required by supervisor.
