About The Position

This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of city roads and streets. It involves participation in snow and ice removal operations, with on-call duties 24/7 during winter months and operating 12-hour shifts 7 days a week during such operations. The role includes operating various heavy equipment, performing asphalt street repairs, operating brine making equipment, street sweepers, and installing traffic signs and pavement markings. Additionally, it involves operating tractors for right-of-way maintenance, maintaining radio contact, performing vehicle inspections, and setting up traffic control at work sites.

Requirements

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Class B driver’s license with air brakes and tanker endorsement issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated, obtained within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

Participates in a variety of snow and ice removal operations, on call 24/7 during winter months, operating 12 hour shifts 7 days a week during snow and ice fighting operations.
Operates a backhoe, front-end loader, motor grader, and other heavy equipment.
Makes asphalt street repairs with paver, roller, durapatcher, hotbox and cold mix patch; seals cracks.
Operates brine making equipment.
Operates a street sweeper to clean city streets.
Installs traffic signs and pavement markings.
Operates tractor and bush hog to maintain rights-of-way.
Maintains radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information.
Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Sets up and assists in traffic control at work sites.
Performs related duties.
