Heavy Equipment Operator - Landfill
About The Position
Under general supervision, operates heavy equipment (i.e. wheel loader, truck loader, compactor, dump truck and various other equipment) related to the daily operations of the landfill. This role is responsible for managing green waste materials, keeping equipment maintained, creating compost product, building roads, watering and sweeping roads. Additionally, the operator is responsible for the placement, compaction, and daily coverage of solid waste, loading of finished products into public or private vehicles, answering customer questions about product usage, and loading transfer trucks and other operations within the transfer station. The role also involves the transport of solid waste from the Transfer Station to the North Valley Landfill.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Valid Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at a level appropriate to the equipment operated (Class A)
- Experience in customer service
- Six (6) months of experience operating heavy equipment
- Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety precautions for equipment operation
- Able to operate controls of vehicle, repeatedly using wrists and hands
- Ability to work in extreme hot and cold environmental conditions
- Capable of lifting in excess of 75 pounds without adverse consequences
- Able to climb in and out of vehicles repeatedly

- Computer experience desirable
- Knowledge of landfill and composting process helpful
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance, capabilities, limitations and safe operations
- Ability to establish satisfactory working relationship with fellow employees and the general public
