About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking an experienced 1st Shift Heavy Equipment Operator for their facility in Danbury, CT. IWS is a progressive provider of solid waste and recycling services in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a rail-served landfill in Ohio. They are committed to high-quality services while prioritizing safety. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for loading, pushing, and transferring solid waste material in the transfer station, maintaining it efficiently and professionally. The role requires a team-oriented and self-motivated individual.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • High school/GED education completed
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as Equipment Operator required.
  • Fluency in English required

Nice To Haves

  • Higher education is a plus.
  • Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
  • Spanish bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy duty equipment such as excavators and bucket loaders (yellow iron equipment), with various other small machinery
  • Routinely set up and inspect equipment prior to operation
  • Observe hand signals, grade stakes, or other markings when operating machines to perform work duties in compliance of safety specifications
  • Receive written and oral instruction regarding material movement
  • Move materials over short distances, around facility
  • Maintain an efficient flow by loading transfer trailers to target load weight and reduce traffic congestion
  • Create and maintain inclines or ramps
  • Repair machinery and replace parts as needed
