About The Position

Railserve is hiring dependable, safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operators in Illinois to support rail track construction projects. This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for operating heavy machinery and supporting construction activities at job sites. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 2–4 years of experience operating heavy equipment
  • Ability to operate backhoes, loaders, and similar machinery
  • Ability to travel and work out of town for extended periods
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to read basic instructions and job site documentation
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment
  • FRA certification required when applicable

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with rail construction equipment is a plus
  • Knowledge of laser/machine control and blueprint reading is a plus
  • CDL is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, bulldozers, and backhoes
  • Load, haul, and unload materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Report equipment issues and coordinate repairs with supervisors
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and operational readiness
  • Follow all company safety standards and procedures
  • Assist with track laborer duties as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
