Safely operate and/or have the ability to operate various equipment including excavator, front loader, bulldozer, or other heavy equipment and/or steer equipment to bale, load and move waste material. We are looking for a Landfill Equipment Operator who is dependable, safety-conscious, and ready to help us manage our most critical infrastructure. Requirements

  • The Skills: Proven ability to steer, guide, and drive heavy equipment using steering wheels, shifters, levers, and pedals.
  • Forklift certification is required.
  • The Knowledge: Ability to read and understand equipment gauges, perform basic math, and follow instructions with limited supervision.
  • The Grit: Comfortable working 100% outdoors in all weather conditions. You can lift/push/pull up to 25 lbs regularly and 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Language: Ability to read, speak, and write in English to ensure site safety and clear communication.

Responsibilities

  • Master the Machinery: Operate heavy equipment—including compactors, dozers, scrapers, and loaders—to spread, compact, and cover waste according to site plans.
  • The Daily Checklist: You are the first line of defense for your machine. You’ll perform daily inspections, grease/lubricate equipment, and manage fluid levels to keep our fleet in top shape.
  • Maintain the Site: Clean trash and debris from tracks and gear mechanisms daily. You’ll also assist in maintaining the grounds and facility appearance to GFL’s high standards.
  • Communication & Safety: Use a two-way radio to stay in sync with the scale house and field crew. You’ll attend regular safety meetings to ensure everyone on Team Green goes home safe.
  • Team Versatility: Be ready to substitute for other operators or jump in on special projects as needed/required by management.
