About The Position

This role involves the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, primarily assisting line crews in water distribution systems. Responsibilities include digging ditches, hoisting materials, and performing various tasks related to utility maintenance. The position requires flexibility for after-hours, on-call, and weekend work. Operators will also be responsible for driving trucks, operating construction equipment, and performing routine equipment inspections and maintenance. Safety and adherence to standards are paramount.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Oklahoma driver license
• Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, bending, sitting, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
• Basic computer knowledge and recordkeeping skills.
• Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Nice To Haves

• Possess or ability to obtain a CDL commercial driver license within 12 months.
• Possess or ability to obtain a Class D Water Works Operator license within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain heavy equipment, including trucks of various sizes, backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, skid steers, and jetter trucks.
• Assist line crews in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting materials, tools, and equipment.
• Perform pot holing and backfilling operations.
• Assist with the maintenance of water and/or wastewater utilities.
• Operate jackhammers, mowers, saws, and other small equipment and tools.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Clean equipment.
• Assist in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
• Plow snow and salt roads.
• Perform all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.
• Operate trucks in the loading, hauling, and unloading of equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Operate construction or power equipment such as mechanized brooms, man-lifts, dump trucks, and snowplows.
• Dig near other utilities such as pressured gas utilities, electric utilities, phone utilities, and cable television lines.
