About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is an entry-level position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This role involves working at various locations and may require travel to other states based on customer demands. The position is crucial for ensuring that infrastructure systems are operational and reliable.

Requirements

2+ years of minimum experience.
Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
Willing to work over-time when requested.
Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.

Nice To Haves

A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.

Responsibilities

Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead systems.
String overhead wire.
Set poles and anchors.
Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clearing faulted circuits and systems.
Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect lives.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Perform rigorous physical labor.
Understand proper use of company radio.
Understand operation of heavy equipment.
Understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying.
Understand the proper use and maintenance of hand tools.
Be capable of receiving and following directions.
Learn basic knowledge of materials used in line work.
Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
Be familiar with induced voltage.
Assist with the installation and hook-up of a single-phase transformer.
Perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
Understand the basic concepts of equipment set up and grounding.
Work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
Understand minimum approach distance.
Check voltage on transformers.
Understand flag and tag procedures.
Install and remove a service.
Properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
Understand when to wear personal protective equipment.
Make up and use a hand line.
Understand how and when to use Kellum grips.
Identify different types of materials used in line work.
Work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
Willingness to glove/work high voltage transmission lines.
Perform other related work as required to complete the job.
