The Heavy Equipment Operator is an entry-level position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations and may be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. The role involves working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to protect oneself and others. The operator will also be responsible for maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools, and performing rigorous physical labor. A basic understanding of rigging, hand lines, lineman knot tying, and hand tools is necessary, as is the ability to follow directions and learn about materials used in line work. The position requires the ability to identify primary and secondary voltage, understand induced voltage, and perform basic transformer installations and bucket rescues. Familiarity with equipment setup, grounding, working at heights, minimum approach distances, and inspecting rubber goods and PPE is also essential. The role requires working outside, often in inclement weather, and willingness to work on high voltage transmission lines.
